What I learned from Trump, Davos and Europe in the past seven days. What’s your take?

China is coming, US is leaving and Europe is standing still.

  1. DAVOS – impressed and surprised by the speed in which the world leaders, present at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2017 in Davos, embraced Chinese president Xi Jinping as the new defender of economic globalization to counter Trump. A China driven by a future goal to replace the United States as the new leading global force.
  2. TRUMP – is predictable as he keeps making the same promises, executes on those promises at the speed of light, continues to Tweet, divides the world between the good, the bad and the ugly, and will run his presidency as a business focused to win by making just a part of America and only America Great Again.
  3. EUROPE – the day following the inauguration and Davos, Europe’s most prominent rightwing politicians gathered in the German city Koblenz to surf on the wave of Trump’s self-declared ‘America first’ and revamped patriotism. This while the EU was at its best and focused their energy on appointing the Italian conservative Antonio Tajani as the new president of the European parliament. Unfortunately a non-event for most European citizens as the EU is still short of a clear purpose and unity with no sign of recovery yet. The only way the EU can fight back is to unite around an inspirational purpose and a positive project that are closer to people’s day-to-day lives and with a clear focus on shaping our future.
  4.  Of course there is hope, but as history has shown, hope is not a strategy.

It is time to act. It is time to make the WORLD great again.
